Protecting the heart of Wild Country in the lower 48

Friends of the Clearwater is a registered 501(c)3 organization that, since 1987, has been at the forefront of wildland conservation in the Clearwater River drainage - the northern half of Central Idaho's Big Wild. We work to educate the public about the importance of ecosystem integrity and real "forest health," while defending threatened wildlands from the St. Joe River to the Salmon. The Big Wild is the largest intact ecosystem in the lower 48 states.

Not too long ago, the entire country was wilderness and was not in need of 'management'. Please look around our site and consider joining us in the effort to protect the largest chunk of unprotected wilderness in this country (besides Alaska). We also have a new full color brochure available for download. Please have a look. You are free to print this out and share it with friends.

You can join local conservation and hike activities for free. We are a community service organization dedicated to increasing understanding and appreciation for the wild outdoors in a safe and responsible manner.
