Draft Board Job Descriptions

Draft Board Job Description Board members of Friends of the Clearwater are charged with overall fiduciary responsibility of the organization. While the staff keeps the day-to-day financial records, the boards responsibility is to approve budgets, approve decisions about staff and approve major allocations. The board also approves any litigation, meets with the staff at the first of the year to review evaluations for the past year, and adopts any changes to bylaws, mission, and major goals of the organization. Board members are encouraged to participate in ad hoc committees or working groups which meet on an as needed basis. Currently there are five: The education working group: assessing FOC's efforts, community needs, identifying priorities (new website, laptop & digital projector were identified during these meetings) The Coeur dAlene Salamander (CDAS) group: this coming spring will be our second year of monitoring for the CDAS, a forest sensitive species. We also plan to monitor Idaho giant salmanders and have an intern who will be leading the field work full time during spring-summer 2007-Adrienne Boland) The FOC facelift committee (office spruce up, new brochure committee): We have completed phase 1 with a spruce up and painting of the front office room but have much more to do; the new brochure should be ready to go to printing any time. This committee needs a lead person. Staff evaluation committee: sits down with staff once a year, typically late winter, early spring to discuss the past year and staff member's self evaluation. These meetings have proven extremely valuable over the last year. Business outreach committee: local business support is essential to the sustainability of grassroots groups like FOC. We are always working toward less foundation dollars and more private donations. A core group of businesses in Moscow have expressed interest in having a more formal presence. This committee needs a lead person. Board members are encouraged to help in fundraising (anything from hosting a house party to taking leadership in event planning), issue work (talk to Gary or Will), or any else that you think needs to be done. Board members are expected to attend board meetings (when possible) and participate in decisions which occur at those meetings or via the internet.
