Ecosystem Defense Self Appraisal 2006
Employee Performance Review: Self-Appraisal Form Employee name: Gary
Macfarlane Date: Jan.2007 My major accomplishments or contributions during
the past 12 months have been:(indicate progress toward job-related goals as
well as special projects). Success included victories on the wolverine
lawsuit, victory on a timber sale appeal in the Palouse Ranger District,
coordination with Sierra Club on closing Grandmother Mountain to ORVs, ORV
monitoring, helped defeat wolf-killing proposal, We kept out development of
all inventoried roadless areas and all non-inventoried roadless areas. We
were instrumental in organizing an environmental conference on collaboration.
Helping coordinate the Wild Rockies net work and meeting in March. Helping
raise issue of wilderness and public lands with a coalition of groups across
the country. Implemented with Will a better way to communicate with board via
our weekly staff meetings. The skills and competencies that most directly
related to successes that I have achieved: Knowledge of public land issues,
the land itself and the players involved. Ability to communicate with the Nez
Perce Tribe, other conservationists, agencies, attorneys and the public, even
when our values differ. My most important contribution to my work area is:
Finding ways to leverage our influence by working with other groups in a
hostile political environment and in a time of reduced FOC budgets. In the
past year, I offered the following suggestions or ideas for improving
productivity or service: Used volunteers and interns to do field work to aid
Ecosystem Defense. Volunteers have been helpful in preparing comments and
especially in field work for long-term projects. This program is what became
of our ecosystem defense project. Concentrate comments and especially appeals
on only certain projects. In the past year I have developed my skills or have
learned/improved competencies in: Working with digital photos. Becoming more
adept an electronic communication. The specific skills or abilities that I
would like to concentrate on developing with additional experience or
training in next year more about website and mapping technology. If there
were one thing I think I could improve in my performance, it would be:
Finding more time to work on office upkeep/filing upkeep. If there were one
thing I could change about my position it would be: More time to discuss big
picture issues of policy and plan to implement those bigger pictures. What
could the board do to better to help you?: I would suggest the board having
aboard member job description would help us all. Job goals: List your
specific job-related goals for the next 3, 6 and 12 months. 3-Months Update
electronic and paper filing system Coordinate with allies on pushing the idea
of wilderness and vision of NREPA. 6-months Make sure FOC and its members are
