This was scheduled as part of an ongoing effort to evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, and effectiveness of the board in helping FOC to grow and achieve its mission. Numerous insights were shared that are difficult to summarize but I will do my best to highlight those that I found most pertinent. Key points: Rural Roots Board Discussion Consult by-laws often Annual retreat soon after new board member(s) comes on New members get a packet outlining roles and responsibilities - clear expectations Agenda put out by secretary and minutes sent out within a few days after meeting Board structure (executive committee -i.e. president, vice president, secretary, treasurer-is first line of decision making) Use of a bookkeeper HCPC Board Discussion High profile board members Funding structure- a lot of foundation funds and major donors (greater than $100/yr) Have a restoration staff person - good for obtaining foundation funds Board aids with hand writing thank you letters to major donors Marketing not seen as an important component - many donors come to them Lawsuits bring in money when utilized This discussion took up a majority of the time allotted.
