Visit Clearwater wildlands in your backyard with the Palouse Group Sierra Club and Friends of the Clearwater! The Grandmother Mountain roadless area encompasses some of the closest, pristine, forest stands to the Palouse prairie, despite extensive off-road vehicle damage in its lower reaches. We hope to observe old-growth hemlocks and/or extensive mountain vistas on this day hike that can take several paths in the area, depending on participant interests and abilities. Grandmother’s huckleberries will be juicily ripe by this time of a cool and moist year, so, besides sturdy hiking gear, lunch, and water, bring containers for the bountiful gifts of the wild. Please meet at the Rosauers sign in Moscow at 7 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, for this fall wildland exploration and celebration that will return to town by 5 p.m. For more information and to reserve a place in this hike, contact Friends of the Clearwater at 208-882-9755 or foc@friendsoftheclearwater.org.
