Big Wild Weekly 4.4.09

Dear Friends,

Meadowlarks are singing and swallows are swooping, spring snowstorms are thundering, and the creeks are rising here in Clearwater Country. Spring is well upon us.

We have two important events coming up very quickly.

Tuesday, April 7, 7:00 p.m. at the UI College of Law classroom 105, Brett Haverstick will present an abbreviated version of the thesis with which he just earned his M.S. in Natural Resources. Congrats Brett! He will be presenting an analysis of the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act. Please join us for this timely event!

Wednesday, April 8, 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Unemployment Office (the building just east of East Side Marketplace on the Troy Hwy) the Clearwater National Forest will be holding an open house meeting on the proposed Upper Lochsa Land Exchange. This controversial project would trade several large tracts on the Clearwater & Nez Perce Forests and others for privately held and heavily logged over land on the upper Lochsa River. For those following the proposed rezone of 135 acres on Foothill Road in Latah County, which would pave the way for the development of a rural subdivision, commissioners declined to make a decision following the March 31 hearing and instead scheduled a public deliberation session for 3 p.m. April 27 at the county courthouse.
