Upcoming events reminder

Dear Friends,

Just a reminder and clarification on our upcoming events.

This Saturday, September 26 we will be meeting at 7:00 a.m. at the Rosauers Parking lot in Mosow to carpool to our closest roadless area, Grandmother Mountain. Grandmother Mountain Roadless Area, in the St. Joe Ranger District of the Idaho Panhandle National Forest lies adjacent to the northern border of the Clearwater River drainage and the St. Joe River drainage. The heaths will be in full fall color. If you haven't visited this Clearwater/St. Joe divide country you are in for a treat! 360 degree vistas, opportunities to see peaks in three or maybe even four states, and southerly moving migratory birds this time of year. If you decide to join us be sure to bring water, food, weather appropriate gear (layers, boots, poncho if it appears likely to rain). Please contact our office by email at foc@friendsoftheclearwater.org or by phone at 882-9755 and let us know if you are coming.

Next Tuesday, September 29 we will be potlucking at East City Park in Moscow at 6:00 p.m. The focus of this get together is to update you all on the MOTORIZED MADNESS proposed for the Clearwater National Forest (CNF). We have a real opportunity to push the CNF in the right direction by writing letters urging the Forest Supervisor to close trails in roadless areas to motorized use. The North Fork Clearwater roadless country, especially Weitas Creek, which is ground-zero for the roadless wars, past, present, and yet to come is essential for elk breeding habitat and winter range. Many opportunists including the motorcycle community are pushing to keep all of the trails in this precious drainage as well as those in Pot Mountain, Moose Mountain, and Fish Creek open for machines that belong on roads. Please help us in this effort.

If you have not received our paper alert mailing and would like a copy please contact us. The web alert link is below.
