H2oil Reminder!!!
Submitted by foc on Tue, 08/17/2010 - 1:48pm
Please join us this Wednesday night at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Center in Moscow for a showing of the riveting and highly informative documentary H2oil. Doors open at 6:30pm, with the film beginning at 7:00pm. Admission is free. Beverages will be provided by Mikey's Gyros.
H2oil tells the story of the Tar Sands strip-mining project occurring in Alberta, Canada and the socio-economic, ecological and political consequences associated with it. Filmed on site and within First Nation communities deeply affected by the extraction, the film does an excellent job of explaining why the Tar Sands are a major concern at both the local and global level. The film lasts approximately 80 minutes.
FOC, the Palouse group of the Sierra Club, and local citizens are co-sponsoring this film because ExxonMobil/Imperial Oil is proposing to truck their Tar Sands oil processing equipment up the narrow Wild & Scenic Clearwater River corridor. The 207 mega-load modules are destined for Alberta if the Idaho Transportation Department grants them permits this fall. Because thousands of Idahoans have strongly voiced opposition to this possibility, this film is a great opportunity to make the connection between protecting our river valley and the role we may play in future Tar Sands mining.
Again, the film is free to the public and doors open at 6:30pm. The theatre is located at 508 S. Main Street in downtown Moscow. Hope to see you and your friends there!
Forever Wild,
Brett
