The Wild Clearwater

The Wild Clearwater Country is the northern half of the largest unroaded, undeveloped wildland in the lower 48, the Big Wild. Also known as the Idaho Clearwater Bioregion, the Wild Clearwater Country includes those public lands between the St. Joe and the Salmon Rivers, the Clearwater River drainage. Friends of the Clearwater works to defend these lands, to keep the wild wild, for wolverines, for wolves, and for the cooperative owners of these lands, individual citizens.

Welcome

Welcome to our website.
A lot of changes are happening fast, so please bear with us.

Friends of the Clearwater is dedicated to protecting the wilderness and the species that dwell there.

Most of the Wilderness areas administered by the US Forest Service are actually in great jeopardy. Not an alarm cry, just a simple fact. Development has encroached on our remaining wilderness like you would not believe.

Have a look around, view our satellite maps and you will see the areas that have been subject to destructive logging practices. You will also be able to see photographs of the regions and species in these areas.
