Rep. Peter DeFazio (OR) has introduced H.R. 1817, the Chemical Poisons Reduction Act of 2017, legislation that would ban the use of the lethal poisons Compound 1080 and sodium cyanide (M-44) for predator control efforts. The bill is supported by multiple national wildlife advocacy groups.
In April 2017, in response to an administrative petition, the rogue agency known as Wildlife Services agreed to temporarily halt the use of M-44 cyanide bombs in the state of Idaho. All of this came on the heels of the tragic death of a family dog and injury to a young boy going for a hike on their property near Pocatello, Idaho.
