The Forest Service has released its draft plan for weed management in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. Their proposed project would not only violate legally mandated Wilderness character but would also likely prove ineffective. Research has suggested that prevention is the best way to address weed infestations.
The United States Congress designated the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness in 1964 and it now has a total of 1,340,502 acres. Idaho contains approximately 1,089,059 acres. Montana contains approximately 251,443 acres. It is managed by the United States Forest Service.
