Upper Lochsa Land Exchange Letter Writing Party

A complete purchase-option would create a better legacy FOC File Photo

Please consider writing a letter to Idaho Senator Jim Risch and Idaho Congressmen Raul Labrador to tell them that you oppose any efforts to pass legislation that would take away valuable federal public lands through the ill-conceived Upper Lochsa Land Exchange.

Talking points to consider:

  • Congress intended the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to be the decision-making tool for public lands
  • (2) Environmental Impact Statements and (5) years of administrative analysis has revealed serious flaws and never established why an exchange would benefit the public
  • Western Pacific Timber should not be charged with leading the effort to draft legislation
  • Bi-partisan opposition, including host of retired Forest Service employees
  • Loss of fishing, hunting and other recreation opportunities, including productive low-elevation fish and wildlife habitat
  • Complete purchase-option for the upper Lochsa lands through the Land and Water Conservation Fund would best serve the public
