Dear public land owners,
The Forest Service (FS) is not following the spirit or intent of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Instead of doing robust environmental analyses for proposals and allowing for genuine public involvement, the agency is asking citizens to comment on projects before any analyses is done, and they are hastily moving through the public involvement process when the analysis is complete.
FOC is very concerned with the massive 50,000-acre End of the World project, which is located six miles south of Grangeville, Idaho. The FS proposed approximately 20,000 acres of precommercial thinning, intermediate harvest, and regeneration harvest. Unfortunately, the agency is conducting an inadequate environmental analysis and rushing the public involvement process, as well. The public comment period ends November 11, 2019. Learn more.
Stray Creek is a timber sale located thirteen miles east of Kamiah, Idaho, in the Middle Lolo Creek sub watershed. The FS proposed to log 425-acres, reconstruct six miles of road, and construct approximately four miles of temporary road. A major concern is the lack of quality information and analysis by the Forest Service for the project. This greatly reduces the ability of citizens and groups like Friends of the Clearwater to offer constructive feedback on the proposal. The public comment period ends November 12, 2019. Learn more.
