Dear Friend,
“This year we entered the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness from Montana for a change. The South Fork Lolo Creek became our new favorite gateway into wild country. The landscape alternated between conifer forests and wide, open meadows filled with spring flowers persisting into summer. We caught a black bear standing on its hind legs digging at Douglas fir bark along the fringes of open habitat. Maybe it was searching for grubs or sweet sap. We promptly scattered in different directions.”
